Two sisters are among five swimmers who will represent Kenya at the Commonwealth Games that begin tomorrow in Australia.

Kenya's swimming team manager, Patrick Muyah, remained confident of registering good results at the games.

The sisters, Sylvia and Maria Brunlehner, and Emily Muteti, are in the women's team while the men's team has Issa Abdallah and Steve Kimani.

Sylvia, Abdallah and Kimani will be making their second attempts at the Club Games after taking part in the 2014 Glasgow Games. However, the trio did not have a successful outing, but were happy with improved personal times.

Speaking from Thailand en route to Australia yesterday, Muyah said the five swimmers are in top form and will perform better in Australia.

“All the swimmers have been training abroad and we believe the sessions they had will translate into good results,” said Muyah.

He added that Sylvia, Abdallah and Kimani will build on the exposure they got at the 2014 Glasgow Games.

In Glasgow, Sylvia did not go past the heats in 50m butterfly, 50m freestyle and 100m freestyle events.

It was the same case with Abdallah in 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle and 100m butterfly. Kimani, competing in 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle and 200m backstroke, did not make it past the heats as well.

The five swimmers were selected based on their latest FINA point-rankings where Maria tops with 758 points. Emily has 750, while Sylvia 730 points. [Ernest Ndunda]
