Kenyan Premier League: Omondi hails fantastic spirit at Nakumatt

Nakumatt midfielder Kevin Omondi believes their club’s financial problems are temporary setback insisting the players will fight for the team colours.

The ‘Elephants’ face red-hot Mathare United tomorrow at Ruaraka Stadium seeking to halt their winless streak since beating Nzoia Sugar on February 17.

“We are going through a difficult patch, but I’m encouraged by the team spirit. Although we are training separately, our bond remains intact,” Omondi said yesterday.

“We believe this financial setback is temporary and that is why we have resolved to keep fighting for the colours of the club.

“We are also aware that the mid-season transfer is fast approaching and therefore we have to be in good shape just in case a suitor comes along,” the former KCB player said.

Nakumatt are in a rut financially, but have defied the odds to remain above relegation zone, even if only after eight rounds.

Although with a negative goal difference weighing them down, Nakumatt are 15th with six points, two above Vihiga United, Thika United and Zoo Kericho.

Coach Anthony Mwangi paid glowing tribute to his charges saying their 2-0 defeat to Sofapaka on Saturday has not broken their fighting spirit.

“We lost the game in the first seven minutes partly because we were not settled. However, we showed a lot of courage to pin back Sofapaka,” Mwangi said.

“On Wednesday we are going to face Mathare United with the same positivity as was in the last game. It’s really unfortunate that the boys are affected by the lack of finances, but I can tell you it is a fantastic group of players,” he said.
