Manchester United have missed out on long-term target Antoine Griezmann who is instead poised to tie up a move to Barcelona.

Jose Mourinho had wanted the talented Frenchman to spearhead his Old Trafford revamp.

And he thought he may be able to snap up the 27-year-old hitman, who is good friends with Paul Pogba.

But Griezmann has his heart set on joining Barcelona, report The Sun, and will move there from Atletico Madrid in the summer.

Mourinho will now look to other striker targets - even though he's said he's not looking to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Pogba spoke during the international break about wanting to play with Griezmann at club level as well as France.

Cashing in on Martial to bring in Bale

But even so he will snub Old Trafford - and move on to the Nou Camp Mourinho to cash in on Martial and Bale transfer in a £88m mega move.

Manchester United's decision to sell Anthony Martial will help to bankroll their anticipated summer move for long-standing target Gareth Bale, writes the Sunday Mirror's John Richardson.

Boss Jose Mourinho has lost patience with the now 22-year-old France forward, who hasn’t consistently shown the skills which saw the Old Trafford giants splash out £36million — with the potential to rise to £58m — on Deadline Day in September 2015.

The former Monaco starlet has often been criticised by Mourinho for his languid style — one which hasn’t endeared him to the United fans.

Now, Mourinho will cash in at the end of the season, with Juventus leading the interest in Martial.

United would hope to recoup most of their investment — cash which will be used to try to finally land Real Madrid’s Bale.

There have been firm enquiries for the Wales international in each of the past three summers, only for the Spaniards to insist the former Spurs star was not for sale.

But that firm stance has now changed, with the Madrid top brass believing he is missing too many games though injury.

It’s going to be a summer of big changes at Madrid and the 28-year-old Welshman will be allowed to leave — providing any club can pay around £80m.
