Jose Mourinho insisted he was happy with his side's reaction after Manchester United fought from two goals down to claim a 2-2 draw with Burnley at Old Trafford.

United fell two goals down against Sean Dyche's overachievers in the first half, Steven Defour's excellent freekick adding to Ashley Barnes' opener.

Mourinho changed things in the second period, bringing on both Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Jesse Lingard at the break, and it was the latter who got Mourinho's men back into the game with a clever finish.

United pressed and probed but failed to fight through a stubborn Clarets' rearguard. That was until England midfielder Lingard, whose recent form has been excellent, turned home his second of the game to earn United a point.

However, while the result meant they weren't beaten, it offers Manchester City the chance to extend their advantage at the top of the table on Wednesday, when Pep Guardiola's men visit Newcastle.

Yet despite his side's failure to win, Mourinho insists he was satisfied with his side's performance.

"We should have won, yes," Mourinho told Match of the Day . "I take satisfaction by the way the team played, by the way the team reacted, to try to recover from 2-0 down.

"The boys they fought against the 2-0 at half-time, so nothing at all negative to say about my players. I praise their spirit, their reaction, the way they accept all the risks we took in the second half."

United paired Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku for the first time from the start, but United failed to fire with their new-look forward pair.

Indeed, after a disappointing opening 45', Ibrahimovic was one who made way at the break, along with centre-half Marcos Rojo, as Mourinho went with one centre-half and a host of creative players, in an attacking move not usually associated with the Portuguese.

Eventually, United fought back to claim a point, something Mourinho says was the least they deserved, while calling on his side to be more clinical.
