Golf: Karoki has a field day as he lifts UAP title at Nyeri club

A round total of 39 stableford points is all Patrick Karoki needed to clinch the 25th edition of the UAP ?golf title at the par 72 Nyeri golf Club over the weekend.

Playing off handicap 13, Karoki carded 20 stableford points on the outward nine and summed it up with 19 stableford points on the inward nine to prevail over 111 golfers in the daylong tournament.

"All I wanted was to enjoy my round and play alongside ladies. I had the honour all through and that motivated me. I will defend my title next year, God willing," said Karoki.

Long-hitting Nayuki Sports Club rookie Charles Rob, playing off handicap 6, won Men first prize on a score of 38 (10+18) stableford points, while his clubmate Jediel Muriungi, playing off handicap 5, bagged Men third prize on a score of 37 (20+17) stableford points.

Andrew Muriuki, playing off handicap 13, was Men third winner on 36 (21+16) stableford points, while Patrick Maina settled for Men fourth prize on 36 (19+17) stableford points.

Stella Mwangi was in a stellar form as she claimed the Ladies medal on an identical score of 19 stableford points on each nine for a total of 38 stableford points as Mercy Mburu took Ladies second prize with 33 (14+19) stableford points.

John Kogo, playing off handicap 5, carded 36 (16+20) stableford points to emerge the Guest winner, with handicap 5 Morris Njue posting 34 (18+16) stableford points to settle for Guest second prize.

Stephen Gathara of UAP Nyeri branch, playing off handicap 25, returned a score of 31 (15+16) stableford points to win the Staff prize.

Eddie Karumwa, playing off handicap 10, posted 21 stableford points to win the 1st nine prize. R. Nyanchoga, with 19 stableford points, won the second nine prize.

Handicap 16 Wanjau Gathuri won the Longest drive prize in the men's category, while handicap 36 Eunice Kinungi won Longest drive prize in the ladies' category.

Zachary Wachanga, playing off handicap 10, won the Caddy prize with 36 (17+19) stableford points. [Mose Sammy]
