Commonwealth Games: Tuwei is Club Games Chef de Mission

National Olympic Committee of Kenya (Nock) has appointed Athletics Kenya President Jackson Tuwei as Chef de Mission for the 21st Commonwealth Games set for Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, on April 4-15 next year.

The team of officials for the Club Games was announced yesterday by newly elected Nock President Paul Tergat.

Maina Kamau, the acting Sports Commissioner, is the deputy Chef de Mission while Kenya Judo Association chairman Shadrack Maluki is the team’s general manager with Paul Otula, the Kenya Basketball Federation chairman, as the deputy team manager.

Dr Paul Rwambo is the chief medical officer while Kenya Swimming Federation’s Winnie Kamau is the women’s team manager.

Nock Treasurer Eliud Karuiki is the finance officer and Francis Mutuku, the Kenya Lawn Tennis representative, is the executive officer.

“We want all federations to put their house in order from now henceforth. We will not allow scenarios where two factions from the same federation present to us their final teams in any international event. We urge federations to prepare their athletes well ahead of the Commonwealth Games,” said Tergat, a former world marathon record holder.

At the 2014 games in Glasgow, Scotland, Kenya collected 25 medals –10 gold, 10 silver and five bronze –with athletics running the shows. [Dennis Okeyo]
