Starlets rout Mauritious in Cosafa tie: Rampant Kenyan ladies wallop opponents 11-0 in Zimbabwe

Neddy Atieno nets four goals to make it seven in two matches.

Harambee Starlets overwhelmed Mauritius 11-0 in a Group B clash in the ongoing Council of Southern Africa Football Associations Women’s Championship at Luveve Stadium in Zimbabwe yesterday.

This was the second win for the Kenyan ladies who thrashed Mozambique 5-2 in the opener while this was Mauritius second defeat in the competition.

Straight from scoring her first hat-trick and taking the player of the match award in the opener, Neddy Atieno continued to impress as she scored four goals for Starlets comfortable win.

Her heroics ensured she bagged the player of the match gong for the second consecutive match, the first player in the competition to have done that. The four goals meant the former Under 20 captain improved her goal tally to seven, the joint top scorer in the competition so far with Malawian international Tabitha Chainga.

Mwanahalima Adam and Lucy Mukhwana grabbed a brace each with Dorcas Shikobe and Cheris Avilia scoring one apiece and Samatha Rossie scoring an own goal to complete the rout.

Starlets result was the highest score so far in the competition.

Richard Kanyi made only two changes from the line up against Mozambique in their opener on Thursday evening.

Monica Karambu came in for Jennifer Adhiambo between the sticks with Carolibe Kiget replaced Pauline Musungu in midfield.

Starlets started the match on a high as Mwanahalima Adam opened the scores in the ninth minute with Atieno adding a second in the 25th minute before adding her second in the 32nd minute.

Mukhwana scored her first goal for Starlets in the 34th minute before Atieno completed her hat-trick in the 46th minute to give Kenya a comfortable 5-0 lead at the breather.

On resumption, Kenya continued their dominance with Mukhwana netting her second in the 49th minute. Atieno became the fourth player in the competition to score four goals in a match after notching her fourth goal in the 51st minute.

Dorcas Shikobe added more misery on Mauritius with a ninth goal in the 79th minute before Adams added the tenth with five minutes left before Rossie put the ball in her own net to make it 11-0.
