Sofapaka also fill Nakumatt trolley with goals in Narok.

Chrispin Oduor was the hat-trick hero of Mathare United’s 6-0 demolition of Zoo Kericho in Saturday’s Kenyan Premier League match at Ruaraka Grounds.

Derrick Onyango came off the bench to score a brace with Edward Seda also getting his name on the score-sheet to hand Zoo the heaviest defeat since making their league debut.

It was the same situation in Narok, where another newcomer Nakumatt suffered a humiliating 5-2 loss at the hands of 2009 champions Sofapaka. Rodgers Aloro scored on either half as Sofapaka exacted revenge on Nakumatt for their first leg 2-1 defeat.

Batoto Ba Mungu opened the scoring with an own goal by Eugene Ambulwa, who headed Jonathan Mugabi’s ninth minute cross into his own net before Omar Kasumba doubled the lead in the 23rd minute. Francis Ocholla came off the bench to round off the rout it the 81st minute.

“We should have won even with a bigger margin if we had converted all the chances we had. But that’s a sweet revenge and we are pleased with the boys’ performance.

“We cannot afford any more slip ups at this particular point of the season. We are taking each game with the seriousness it deserves,” Sofapaka assistant coach John Baraza told The Standard Sports.

Gor Mahia win

In Kisumu, Gor Mahia completed a double over struggling Muhoroni Youth after beating the hosts 2-1 as Posta Rangers were held to a 1-1 draw by Chemelil Sugar in Awasi.

Timothy Otieno’s first half brace in a span of five minutes from Jacques Tuyisenge’s assists is all that the 15 time champions needed to take their points tally to 40 and extend their stay at the top of the table.

Otieno broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute before making it 2-0 five minutes later.

At Ruaraka, it took only four minutes for Chrispin Oduor to open the scoring as he cleverly lopped Edward Seda’s cross over advancing Zoo goalkeeper Vincent Misikhu.

Oduor then capitalised on Zoo’s defensive lapse on the stroke of halftime to double the lead and take his season tally to six.

Two minutes after resumption, Mathare custodian Levis Opiyo pulled off a fine save from Isaac Kipyegon’s brilliantly executed free kick before Seda got his name on the scoresheet with a clinical finish in the 58th minute.

A few moments later, Johnston Ligate could have pulled goal back for the visitors, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

Onyango then put the game beyond Zoo’s reach with a 74th minute strike barely 15 minutes after replacing Ronald Reagan.

Oduor bagged his hatrick in the 82nd minute, scoring from the spot to take his season tally to seven after Derrick Nzosi was tripped in the box by Kipyegon. Onyango would complete the rout on stoppage time when he easily slotted the ball home after Misikhu parried a shot from Chris Ochieng’ onto his path.

Elsewhere, Kenyan international Masoud Juma hit a brace as Kariobangi Sharks demolished a depleted Division One side Eldoret Youth 5-0 in the first GOtv Shield quarter final match, at Nyayo National Stadium, on Saturday.

Sharks in cup semis

Ten-man Sony Sugar also qualified for the semi-finals after seeing off former winners Bandari 3-1 in the second quarter finals match at the same venue.

Juma scored in each half with Duke Abuya who was at his vintage best, Ebrimah Sanneh and Sven Yiddah also finding the net as the KPL debutants tore apart the lower tier outfit.

Sharks went ahead in the 15th minute through Juma’s effort after the former Bandari striker pounced on a rebound from Abuya’s shot to beat Eldoret goalkeeper Reagan Wanjala.
