Gender test results for Caster Semenya- 2009

The controversy surrounding Caster Semenya
  • In 2009, a gender test on Semenya revealed that she is a hermaphrodite
  • Semenya has been shrouded in controversy since she was forced to undergo gender testing

Semenya, who first rose to fame at the IAAF's 2009 World Championships, has long had to battle critics about her gender - whom she dubs her "haters”.

But the question that everyone is asking is, who is Caster Semenya? Is she a man or woman?

Australia's Daily Telegraph, citing an unnamed source, reported in 2010 that Semenya was a hermaphrodite with NO womb or ovaries.

The Reports that came after Semenya was subjected to gender verification tests in 2009 after she won the world championship in Germany and was later barred from international competition by Athletics governing body, a judgement which was later overturned after being sidelined for 11 months as tests were carried out.

Caster Semenya celebrates winning the women’s 800m at the London Stadium in a personal best of 1:55.16.

The results were supposed to be confidential, but reports leaked out that she had testosterone levels three times as high as most women.

World athletics chiefs implemented restrictions on testosterone levels in 2011, and Semenya's times slipped following the introduction of those rules, with many assuming she was taking medication to control her testosterone production.

Caster Semenya Married her Girlfriend

Early this year, Semenya married her long-time partner Violet Raseboya in an extravagant ‘white wedding’ ceremony which coincided with her birthday. Unconfirmed reports also allege that Caster Semenya and his wife are pregnant.
