Gor floors 154 golfers for victory in Nakuru tournament

Kisila Gor wins the Vivo Energy Golf Championships in Nakuru.

Handicap 20 Kisila Gor amassed 40 stableford points to emerge the overall winner of the Vivo Energy Golf Championships at Nakuru Golf Club at the weekend.

Kisila shot 19 points in the first nine and 21 in the back nine to beat a field of 154 golfers from Nakuru, Njoro, Nyahururu, Nandi Bears, Kakamega, Gilgil, Kiambu, Thika, Ruiru, and Royal golf clubs.

Thanks to the victory, Kisila improved his handicap to 18 amid cheers from the audience, who demanded to know how he did it.

The elated Kisila received a voucher worth Sh15,000, as prize money from Vivo Energy Limited Commercial Director Joseph Kahuko.

In his acceptance speech, Kisila said: “When I hit the ball, it drifted as I would have wanted it to."

Trevor Hungi, who posted 39 points, finished second ahead of handicap six Stanley Kirui, whom he beat on a countback.

P.K. Waweru was third runner-up after he scored 19 points in the first nine and had a similar score in the back nine for a total 38 points.

Rosemary Wangui was the lady winner with 38 points, while Sam Mbugua had an impressive 41 stableford points to win the staff prize. Ken Monari won the guest title.

S. Nanji posted 21 stableford points to win the first nine, while handicap six Njuguna Njoka won the second nine title.

John Kamais won the nearest to the pin and longest drives titles, while Josephine Wangari won the longest drive in the women's category.

James Kimani won the best effort title in the thrilling tournament.
