New coach leads Leopards to an away win as Ulinzi hit Nakumatt.

New AFC Leopards coach Robert Matano started his reign on a positive note after pipping Bandari 1-0 at Mbaraki Sports Club yesterday.

At Ruaraka, Ulinzi Stars beat Nakumatt 2-1 while Sony and Mathare United drew 0-0 in the second match on the same venue.

Matano was appointed to the AFC hot seat two weeks ago, and yesterday was his first on the bench, and the win was the first for Leopards in eight matches.

The two teams started the match strongly, with Leopards missing a couple of open chances in the early minutes.

Duncan Otieno was injured and former Bandari player, Victor Majid, took his place in the 14th minute.

Despite numerous forays into their half, Bandari defenders Noah Abich and Andrew Waiswa stood firm to keep Leopards' strikers at bay.

In the second half, Leopards benched Aziz Okaka for Marcellus Ingotsi, who turned out to be the match winner.

As the clock ticked after the end of 90 minutes, Ingotsi intercepted a back pass from Felly Mulumba in injury time to tap the ball past advancing goalkeeper Wilson Oburu for the all important goal.

At Ruaraka Stadium, Ulinzi Stars went to the top of the log after edging out hard fighting Nakumatt 2-1.

The shoppers were coming into this match on the back of a 2-1 win over Sofapaka and enjoyed possession early on but did not take their chances.

The tide turned towards the soldiers with Stephen Waruru’s effort going wide in the 20th minute.

After that, both teams created their own chances with Waruru’s header going wide and Robert Omunuk just missing to beat the Ulinzi Stars' goalkeeper, Jackton Odhiambo.

After a barren first half, the second part of the match was always going to be exciting as both teams came back looking for a goal.

It was the soldiers who scored first when Sammy Onyango netted after Sammy Okinda failed to clear a Waruru ball.

Nakumatt were back in the match at the hour mark when Joshua Oyoo scored.

Ulinzi, however, came off the better side with Omar Bongi scoring the decider and with that pushed the soldiers to the top of the log ahead of Tusker and Gor.
