Liquid Telecom wins Kisii county Wi-Fi contract

KISII, KENYA: Liquid Telecom, formerly known as Kenya Data Networks (KDN), has taken over the contract to connect Kisii residents with free Wi-Fi, barely three weeks to the County pioneer trade summit.
Early last year, the company signed a contract with Nakuru County to provide free Internet that runs at speeds of up to one gigabyte per second.
The free internet is expected to spur development in Kisii County by putting businesses online and connecting campuses and young entrepreneurs.
Speaking after a meeting with Governor James Ongwae in Kisii on Wednesday , the firm's Chief Commercial Officer Paul Statham agreed to support Kisii County through wireless connectivity during the Summit and afterwards.
The Entrepreneurship Summit whose theme is "Tapping the Trade and Investment Opportunities in Kisii County" will take place on February 24th to 26th at the Kisii University grounds.
"We are glad that this firm has accepted to support us during the Summit. Internet connectivity is vital in promoting the growth of business. Through this collaboration with Liquid Telecom, we are looking forward to availing free WiFi in Kisii Town for the next two years," said Ongwae.
Ongwae said Kisii is a resource-rich county with immense potential in mining, agriculture, industries, tourism and hospitality.
