Kenya Cup champions Kabras Sugar will renew their rivalry with KCB as the 2022 National Sevens Circuit resumes with the third leg Driftwood Sevens at Mombasa Sports Club today.

The series resume after a three-week break, a time when the national rugby 15s team Kenya Simbas hosted two Currie Cup fixtures.

Three-time National Sevens Series champions and Driftwood defending champions KCB headline Group B with Kabras Sugar, Daystar Falcons and JumiaPay Pirates

The bankers thrashed the sugar men 22-5 during the opening leg Kabeberi Sevens last month but Kabras coach Max Adaka has vowed to revenge.

Adaka said they are confident they will perform better after their intense training during the three weeks break.

“We are feeling fresh for the third leg and we are raring to go. Training has been perfect for us as we tried to rectify some of the mistakes that cost us in the opening two legs. Our goal is to achieve a podium finish,” said Adaka, the former Kenya Simbas player.

Meanwhile, all eyes will be on series leaders Strathmore University ahead of the third leg of the series.

Strathmore Leos lead the National Sevens Circuit after the opening two rounds.

The 2009 champions are on 41 points, level with defending champions KCB but boasting a superior points difference.

The 2022-2023 season got underway with the opening Kabeberi Sevens followed by the Christie Sevens before the break occasioned by Kenya Simbas’ Currie Cup Division One matches in Nairobi.

Leos, who are fresh from winning the Christie Sevens, are the first seeds in the tournament and will headline Group A.

The Louis Kisia-coached side will be hoping to build on their momentum as they battle with Impala Saracens, Homeboyz RFC and hosts Mombasa.

Last season’s Kenya Cup finalists Menengai Oilers, Kenya Harlequin, Topfry Nakuru and Blak Blad make up Group C.

Western Bulls are in Group D that has Mwamba, Nondescripts and Zetech Oaks, who were promoted to the top division after winning the division two tournament at the Christie.
