Man kills brother in row over family cow

A man killed his brother after they differed over plans to sell a family cow at Kipchumwa location in Marakwet East constituency.

Authorities said the suspect had attempted to stop his elder brother from selling the cow to pay school fees for one of his children.

A bitter exchange of words between the brothers ensued and reportedly degenerated into a fight that led to the killing of the victim on Friday.

Area Chief Richard Chelimo confirmed the incident.

“The younger brother, now deceased, grabbed a machete and attempted to attack his brother. When the elder brother saw his brother was determined to slash him, he rushed to his house and came out with a bow and arrows and shot him several times,” said Mr Chelimo.

The chief said the victim died as he was being rushed to a health facility about six kilometres from the remote village.

He said he had not previously received reports of any dispute between the two brothers, adding that he was shocked by the incident.

The suspect fled after committing the crime and was yet to be arrested by yesterday.

The body of the victim was taken to Kapsowar Mission Hospital.
