Flower farm worker kills lover in Naivasha

A quarrel turned tragic after a woman stabbed her boyfriend to death in  Naivasha on Tuesday night.

The 28-year-old flower farm worker stabbed her lover in the chest in Sanctuary estate along Moi South Lake Road. The man who is said to have been drunk had allegedly beaten her for hours.

Police rescued the shaken woman from a mob that was baying for her blood.

Trouble started in the morning after the man said to have been jobless left for a drinking spree after getting cash from the woman.

A witness, Abel Kariuki, said the man came back later in the evening demanding more cash from the woman, leading to a quarrel.

"The man beat the woman mercilessly for hours outside their house before she managed to free herself. She then rushed into the house and grabbed a knife," he said.

Mr Kariuki added that the woman threatened the man with the knife, but he jumped on her and was stabbed in the chest.

Naivasha OCPD Titus Munyoki confirmed the incident, saying the woman was in custody as investigations continue.

He added that initial investigations indicated that the woman was defending herself from the man who had beaten her on several occasions.

"The body has since been moved to the mortuary and we are questioning the woman before charging her," he said.

Meanwhile, police have arrested a man after he burned down a house belonging to an internally displaced person in Karati village, Naivasha. The IDP had bought the land from the suspects' parents a year ago leading to a fall out among family members.

A witness, Jane Wamaitha, said the suspect who is in police custody had all along threatened to burn the IDP's house to protest the sale of the land.

"We were woken up by screams and on rushing to the IDP's house we found it on fire and nearly everything was burnt down," she said.
