Nakuru county butchers against ban on meat import

Nakuru County: Nakuru County butchers haves challenged Members of the County Assembly to rethink their intention to introduce a law banning meat imports into the county.

Through Nakuru County Butchers Association, they termed the move as ill advised and untimely, adding that it would see meat prices double.

Nakuru MCAs want to introduce a motion to bar meat imports into the county, saying the county was able to supply enough meat for its people, hence tap more revenue from it. Addressing the Press in Naivasha, officials of the association said they were not consulted when the decision was reached.

The group’s chairman, Samuel Kamotho, said it was hard to get livestock in the county as area residents were not pastoralists.
