Under-20 women football team ready to down Lesotho

The national Under-20 team coach Florence Adhiambo is confident they can maintain their superiority over Lesotho in the World Cup qualifiers when the two sides take on each other on Sunday.

Kenya carry a 2-0 advantage, which they registered in the first leg three weeks ago in Nairobi.

Adhiambo said hours before the team left that they have had adequate training to help them finish the job on tomorrow.

"Despite several challenges, we are confident the amount of work we have put in training is enough to help us achieve our objective of getting past our opponents in the return match," she said.

Adhiambo revealed she would go for a defensive approach in the return match to protect her advantage.

"We already have two goals in the bag and we must do everything to ensure we maintain the same. Our training has mainly focused on defensive tactics," she said.

Adhiambo is already looking past tomorrow’s match and is even dreaming of helping the country qualify for the women Under-20 World Cup.

"Ultimately, our aim is to make it to the World Cup. We have been away from the international level for a long time, but this is now our time to show the country what we can do," added the coach.

Adhiambo however complained that the team’s late departure to Lesotho may affect the players as fatigue may set in.

The team was scheduled to depart last evening after a slight visa hitch delayed their departure.

Initially they were supposed to leave on Thursday evening but most of the players failed to get South African transit visas.
