Ruto takes no prisoners as he faces opposition, oversight bodies

Since President William Ruto assumed power after last year's elections, it has been business unusual for him. Rather than wait to fend off attacks by the opposition, the President took the battle to his rivals by poaching MPs elected on an independent ticket.

This offensive disoriented the opposition giving the president time to build an unassailable numerical strength in Parliament. Nine months later, results have been devastating for the opposition. The last vote in Parliament for the Financial Bill was telling as the government won by 184 votes against 87.
