Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has nominated a top ally of former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya in her Executive.

Governor Kawira has named James Mutia as her Public Service and Administration Chief Officer, pending his vetting by the Meru Assembly.

Mutia, a close confidant of Munya, did not hide his support of Kawira in the run-up to the August election.

He also served as Munya's Chief of Staff during his tenure as Meru governor (2013-2017).

After Munya was defeated by Kiraitu Murungi in 2017 and was appointed CS in various dockets, at Agriculture he appointed Mutia to head the Miraa, Pyrethrum and Other Industrial Crops Directorate.

Kawira also appointed Mutia to represent him in the Transition Committee when she received the instruments of power.

The governor has made fresh appointments after the Meru Assembly rejected seven out of 10 nominees for her Cabinet.
