Mary Ojode has joined the Democratic Action Party of Kenya and will vie for the Homa Bay Woman Representative post.

Mrs Ojode is former Internal Security assistant minister Orwa Ojode’s widow. She vied for the Ndhiwa parliamentary seat in the 2013 and 2017 elections but lost.

Mrs Ojode has now moved to DAP-K in her bid to succeed Ms Gladys Wanga, who is eyeing the governor’s post.

She said leadership is not about the political party one is in but the leader’s ideas. Mrs Ojode urged residents to vet politicians and vote for only those with desirable qualities.

“The August 9 elections will give Homa Bay residents an opportunity to vote for a new set of leaders. They should be vigilant on the kind of people they want to lead them,” she said in Ndhiwa town.

“I urge our people to consider the track record of all aspirants before they decide to vote for them.”
