Wiper MCAs in Machakos County have threatened to withhold approval of development cash until the Executive fully accounts for monies released in the past financial year.

They also asked the three Ukambani governors - Alfred Mutua (Machakos), Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) and Charity Ngilu (Kitui) to account for billions of shillings so far released for development in the region in six years.

Addressing the press at the County Assembly yesterday, the ward representatives claimed the three county chiefs had resulted to directing unwaranted political attacks agaist Wiper party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka after the majority legislators in the three assemblies demanded accountability of itemised budgets by the counties.

“The entire region has nothing to show in terms of development and yet billions of shillings have been allocated. These are real issues which we have been pressing for but unfortunately the governors have started diverting attention through uncalled for attacks agaist our party leader,” said leader of majority Mark Muendo, also Kinanie Ward MCA.

Citing the Machakos County 2018/19 annual budget and 2017/18 supplementary budgets, the MCAs claimed no visible development has been undertaken by the Executive.

“We are telling the executive this assembly will not authorise release of further financial resources until they account for previously allocated cash,” said Mumbuni North MCA Paul Museku.

Museku said the Wiper MCAs, who form the majority will continue pressing for accountability for the benefit of residents.

Kalonzo, the defacto Kamba political kingpin for nearly three decades, is currently fighting off new rebellion by Mutua, Kibwana and Ngilu.
