Lobby group wants Ngilu sacked, blames Kalonzo of poor politics

Suspended Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu

A lobby group from Ukambani has called for the sacking of suspended Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu for her alleged divided loyalty to the Presidency.

The Ukambani Progressive Forum (UPF), bringing together businessmen and professionals from the three counties making up the region, also faulted the manner in which former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka had steered the region's politics.

Terming the political leadership of the region as wanting, they demanded that the two give way to a new crop of leaders.

"Ms Ngilu and Kalonzo are masters of inconsistencies. This had made people from other regions view Ukambani leaders as political turn-coats," they said during a press briefing in Nairobi.

"We have been labelled as water-melons, turn-coats and flip-floppers because the two leaders are masters of that. As it is now, Ms Ngilu does not even appear to know whether she is in Jubilee government or in CORD. She is consistent in changing her positions, and this is not what we want in leaders," said the group's Secretary Benjamin Mukima.

He cited the recent government appointments by the Jubilee coalition that saw the region miss out in plum positions. "This is unlike before when the sons and daughters from this region were considered for plum positions because their loyalty was beyond reproach," said Mr Mukima.

Susan Mwikali, a UPF member from Kitui, accused Ngilu of fighting the Government's agenda in the war against corruption, and called for her sacking.

"It was disheartening to see her take sides with the Opposition in the war against corruption, as though it is the community that is on trial. Her position that the National Youth Service land in Yatta should not be repossessed simply because it is in Ukambani does not hold water," said Mwikali.
