Kutuny tells leaders to respect former President Daniel Moi

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s political adviser Joshua Kutuny has asked leaders from the Kalenjin community to respect former President Daniel Moi.

Speaking during a burial ceremony in Kapkombe village, Mr Kuttuny said the retired president spearheaded numerous development projects that benefited the community during his tenure, and the new crop of leaders in the Rift Valley criticising his leadership were disrespectful.

Kutuny said even after leaving office, Mr Moi’s generosity continues to be felt not only in the region but across the country.

‘’Moi is a statesman. Nobody can stand up and claim to have done more than him and we must respect him regardless of our current status in the society,” he said.

Kuttuny also warned that recent political infighting over who will succeed President Kenyatta in 2022 could cost the community.

He urged Kalenjin leaders to set their minds on purposeful unity in order to achieve the community’s political aspirations.

“Leaders fighting over who will take over after Uhuru is baseless and unnecessary at the moment. They should instead, respect each other and focus their minds on service delivery,” he said.

BE CAREFUL

The former Cherangany MP said the political future of the community rests on the shoulders of all the current leaders and they should be very careful on what they trade in public.

He asked the leaders not to preoccupy themselves with the 2022 elections and instead work on winning the 2017 polls.

Deputy President William Ruto, who hails from the region, has set his eyes on the 2022 General Election hoping that Uhuru keeps his word and supports his candidacy.

Recently, Mr Ruto accused Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto and Kuttuny of praying for his incarceration by the International Criminal Court so that they can take over the leadership of Rift Valley.

Kuttuny said the DP should consolidate the Kalenjin vote by working closely with Gideon and Governor Ruto.
