Man arrested in Homa Bay with Sh36,000 fake currency notes

A 37-year-old man has been arrested in Homa Bay with fake cuiurency notes worth Sh36,000.

The suspect was arrested at Nyakwere market in Rachuonyo North with notes in denominations of Sh1000 and Sh500 notes.

The suspect raised suspicion after he reportedly went on a spending spree, buying various items from shops in the market.

Locals detained and tried to beat up the suspect before police came to his rescue.

Kobuya Location Chief Damianus Osano said the suspect was arrested after the residents raised alarm.

Osano had to intervene quickly to save the suspect from the mob which had gathered at the scene.

“Members of the public were very angry with the suspect hence I had to intervene in the matter to save his life,” said Osano.

When Osano conducted a search on the suspect, he was found with fake notes worth Sh14, 500 before he was handed over to police from Kendu Bay Police Station.

Police also conducted further search inside his bag and found him with fake notes valued at Sh21,500.

The suspect is being detained at Kendu Bay Police Station awaiting arraignment.
