Approach mature women and leave our girls alone, Millie Odhiambo warns sex pests

If you must defile our young girls, seduce us women. These are words of Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo. As a leader and a woman, Millie is infuriated by men who defile girls. Millie, who spoke at Got Rabuor Primary school in Homa Bay Town Constituency during a student mentorship programme organised by Homa Bay Woman Rep Joyce Osogo, expressed concerns over escalating cases of defilement in the county. She expressed disappointment with men who violate the sexual rights of girls in the area. In what dismayed her, Millie wondered why many men have sex with young girls yet there are many mature women in the county, saying many women are in need of men who can have sex with them. "There are many women who just need men who can have sex with them. What is wrong with some men who just insist on defiling our girls," Millie posed. She urged men to embrace the culture of having sex with women who are mature and leave the girls alone. "There are many women in the society including me who are ready for seduction including Amilo Geza Geza (Millie Odhiambo). Why can't these men talk to us instead of going for young girls," Millie said. Destroys lives At the same time, the MP lamented how sex pests destroy the lives of girls. She gave an example of a four-year-old girl who is undergoing surgery at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Hospital in Kisumu county after being defiled. The girl from Homa Bay County sustained serious injuries to her genitals after the ordeal. "The young girl was defiled by a man with a huge body. She sustained serious injuries in her genitals and is now undergoing a surgical operation. Are some people haunted by the devil?" she asked. A secondary school teacher is said to be on the run in Homa Bay County after defiling his six students. The 38-year-old teacher of Nyajanja Mixed Secondary School in Rangwe Sub-county is accused of being in sexual relationships with the girls for many months. One of the girls is now pregnant. The MP called on the Judiciary to mete out harsher penalties on sexual offenders, saying this will help reduce defilement cases. "The Judiciary should not demonstrate any form of leniency to anybody found guilty of sexual offences. We want harsh punitive measures taken against them," Millie said. Speaking at the same function, Osogo echoed Millie's sentiments, saying many girls who were defiled have ended up dropping out of school. She said defilement is a leading cause of teen pregnancies, a problem which Homa Bay County is grappling with. "Premature sex causes teen pregnancies and also leads to sexually transmitted infections which can claim a life. Let our girls also resist people who want to have sex with them," Osogo said. The MP urged girls who come from poor families to resist the men who are out to prey on them under the guise of providing them with basic personal items like sanitary pads. A similar appeal was also echoed by Kisumu Woman Rep Ruth Odinga. "Let our girls know that those who resist sex today and concentrate on their studies will rejoice in future," Odinga said. Homa Bay is one of the counties leading in teen pregnancies, a problem which has drawn the attention of various stakeholders in the county.
