Suspect denies obtaining money from man in exchange for fake job opportunity in Qatar

A woman has been charged with obtaining money from a job seeker in exchange for an employment opportunity in Qatar.

Deborah Nkirote Mwarihi is said to have sought Sh130,000 from Tony Muriithi Kimani on diverse dates between February 26 and March 6 this year within Nairobi.

She is alleged to have falsely pretended that she was in a position to secure Kimani a job in Qatar, a fact she knew not to be true. The two are said to have met in 2021 when Covid-19 restrictions were in force. Nkirote was seeking help to travel from Nairobi to Meru.

Kimathi requested Nkirote to link him with someone who could assist him get a job in Qatar and it is then that she asked him for the money following which he sent her Sh59,000.

Investigators claimed that at some point their relationship blossomed and they became close before differences between them emerged.

It is alleged that Nkirote told Kimathi that she could not accommodate him anymore since she was living with a child.

This is said to have irked him and then he reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of Nkirote.

The accused denied the charge when she appeared before a Makadara court and was released on Sh50, 000 cash bail. The case will be mentioned on October 11.
