'Doctor' found guilty of running illegal clinic, stocking fake drugs

"It is disheartening that the circumstances where some of his victims found themselves without panties in his clinic leads one to conclude that his intention of sedating the women was to have sexual intercourse with them," ruled Kagendo.

Ms Kagendo ruled that the prosecutor Anderson Gikunda had proven beyond reasonable doubt that Mugo used certain unknown drugs with intention of overpowering his victims so as to engage in sexual activity with them.

The magistrate relied on the testimony of a woman identified as ABC to convict Mugo on the count of administering substance with intent to rape her on November 1, 2014 at Prestige Healthcare Clinic in Githurai 44, in Nairobi.

The woman narrated her experience at the hands of the quack doctor when she went to seek medication while she was menstruating.

She had lower abdominal pains and cramps during her period and consulted the quack doctor. At the clinic, Mugo informed her that he wanted to do some examinations without disclosing what he wanted to find out.

"He told me to lie on a table and remove my trouser. I however became alarmed and informed him that I was in my period but he insisted that I had to remove the trouser so that he carries out the examination," said ABC.

After removing her trouser, Mugo gave her four tabs to swallow and that was it. She became unconscious and passed out. She later woke up in another room, and she was fully naked.

The second witness testified that her daughter had burn wounds on her fingers when she took her to Mugo's hospital where he assumed the title of surgeon and amputated one of the fingers. She was forced to give Mugo her title deed as security for the Sh513,000 hospital bill for a procedure which worsened her daughter's condition.

The magistrate ruled that the women had positively identified Mugo as the person who committed the crimes and dismissed his claims that he was framed so as to close down his clinic.

Sentencing is scheduled for Monday, November 21.
