Uhuru Kenyatta gazettes first sitting of 13th Parliament for September 8

President Uhuru Kenyatta has gazetted Thursday, September 8 as the first sittings date for members of both the National Assembly and the Senate.

Members of the two Houses of Parliament will be sworn into office on that day.

The exercise that marks the first day for the 13th Parliament will be undertaken in the two respective chambers starting 9am.

"I, Uhuru Kenyatta, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defences, appoint that the First Sitting of the National Assembly and Senate shall be held at the main Parliament Buildings," he said in Gazette Notice Number 10527.

The National Assembly will have 349 members, including the 47 Woman Representatives and 12 Nominated Members of Parliament.

The Senate, on the other hand, will have 67 members, including 20 Nominated Senators.

The President is required by the Constitution to declare the date for the first sitting of the new House via a gazette notice within 30 days of the elections.
