Former chief of staff at the deputy president's office Maryanne Kitany's mother yesterday took to the witness stand to back up her daughter's side of the story.

Rhonda Kipkoech yesterday told a court that Mr Linturi took her daughter as a wife in 2016.

During cross-examination, Ms Kipkoech insisted that the lawmaker is still her son-in-law adding that the vehicle Linturi bought for her was registered under the name of Atticon Company Limited.

She added that on March 26, 2016, Linturi and 19 other people from Meru County visited her Nandi area during a fundraising ceremony.

She said she was given a vehicle registration KCG 850N by my her son-in-law and she normally uses for gospel missions.

Asked how many land documents Linturi has stolen from her, Kipkoech said she was only aware of one title deed.

She was being cross-examined by defence lawyers Muthomi Thiankolu, Samuel Karanja and George Wajakoyah who are representing Linturi in a divorce case filed by Kitany.

Kipkoech told the court that she was informed of the missing documents by her daughter last year.

She added that she is a shareholder at Nonico and Barons companies.

“My properties were taken from me without my consent and I had bought them from the proceeds of my late husband’s properties,” added Kipkoech.

She, however, noted that she cannot remember the dates or the number of properties that she bought because of her age.

“At least I can remember that I have two buildings in Kileleshwa which contain rental developments,” said Kipkoech.

She said that Kitany was the custodian of all the family titles because she is the chairperson of the family.

Inconsistencies

Kipkoech noted that she owns shares in different companies by virtue of being the head of the family. “Maryanne cannot deal with the properties the way she wants because they belong to the family,” she added.

The court noted that there were inconsistencies on the dates of the alleged wedding ceremony of Kitany and Linturi but the amended affidavits indicate that it was conducted on March 26, 2016.

The witness confirmed that the issue of Atticon Company’s shareholding is being handled by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) because she has since learnt that she was removed from shareholding.

She said she cannot tell how the company was registered or acquired.
