NIS man Mutyambai takes over as new police boss, Boinnet moved to tourism

New Police IG Hillary Mutyambai

The Assistant Director in Counter Terrorism at the National Intelligence Service Hillary Mutyambai was Wednesday nominated as the next Inspector General of Police.

Outgoing police boss Joseph Boinnet was named the Chief Administrative Secretary ministry of tourism and tourism.

President Kenyatta named Eastern Regional Commissioner Wycliffe Ogallo as the Commissioner General for Prisons, Brig Vincent Naisho Loonena as the Director General of Kenya Coast Guard Service and Brig John Migui Waweru Director General of Kenya Wildlife Service.

The changes were announced in an executive order number 4 of 2019.

Mutyambai who is a career policeman takes over the reigns at Jogoo House with hopes his experience in the security sector will help him run the service.

Boinnet is now set hand over to the new boss but after he is vetted, gazetted and sworn into office.

In the meantime, the new National Police Service Commission is set for swearing in ceremony after which they will name an acting IG. The commissioners include Eliud Ndungu Kinuthia as chair and Lilian Kiamba, Eusibius Laibuta, lawyer Naftali Kipchirchir Rono, Alice Atieno Otwala and John Ole Mayaki as members were gazzetted yesterday.

The acting IG is likely to be either APS’ Noor Gabow or Kenya Police DIG Njoroge Mbugua.

President Kenyatta made the announcement following days of speculations and lobbying.

The position is key in security of the country because as the IG one runs the National Police Service as the Chief Executive Officer.

He is in charge of the 100,000 personnel in KPS, APS, Directorate of Criminal Investigations and General Service Unit.

Police expected one of them would be named as their next boss.
