LSK: 'Sack Kenya's Supreme Court Judges over misconduct'

NAIROBI: The Law Society of Kenya has warned of paralysis in the Supreme Court of Kenya after three out of the seven judges threatened to down their tools.

President of LSK Eric Mutua claimed the judges Mohammed Ibrahim, Jackton Boma Ojwang' and Njoki Ndung'u wrote a letter to the Judicial Service Commission(JSC) challenging and disagreeing with a directive by the JSC that all judges who have attained the age of 70 years should cease sitting and hearing matters.

Mutua in a press release said “the judges have threatened that in event JSC does not reverse its decision they would down the tools".

He termed the action by the judges as "not only a subversion of the Constitution but a real threat to Constitutional order. It is a gross misconduct and misbehavior that warrants their removal from office. The authority assigned to State Officers is a public trust that is to be exercised in a manner that demonstrates respect for the people. Such offices should act in a manner that brings honour and dignity to their office and the country," Mutua said.
