Dandora Area Two MCA Stephen Murithi Kambi has been linked to the loss of two pistols at the Buruburu Police Station.
The two pistols, a Taurus and Ceska, were stolen from the armoury on March 26 of this year. Following a violent robbery along Kangundo Road on April 24, police recovered the Taurus and arrested two suspects, Jeremiah Njoroge Chege and Joseph Waweru Kinyua.
Acting on information obtained from the suspects, detectives raided the Dandora house of Kambi in search of the Ceska pistol. But the search did not reveal anything. The MCA was taken to Jogoo Police Station where he was detained and missed out on Jubilee Party nominations. Police constable Collins Wasike Etakwa of Buruburu station was also arrested. Sources indicated that the officer was interdicted in 2012 for stealing exhibits at the station. He however continued staying within the staff quarters and would be assigned some duties. It is believed that he stole the two pistols and later sold them. One of his buyers was alleged to be the MCA and Njoroge, a robber.
The Taurus pistol was used to commit the Kagundo Road robbery. Gunmen attacked a couple as they headed home in the wee hours of the night. The woman was raped. One of the suspects claimed he bought the pistol from Wasike.
A senior detective said: “The suspects including the MCA are all in custody. The Flying Squad officers are now handling investigations,” said the officer.
