It was pomp and splendour as Justice William Ouko’s first daughter Jolly Langi wedded her sweetheart Jeremy Awori in a colourful traditional ceremony at Usenge village, Siaya County.

The invites-only function had top personalities from Kenya’s political and social scene.

Among the guests were Opposition leader Raila Odinga, Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen, Busia Senator Amos Wako and Attorney General Paul Kihara.

Former Vice President Moody Awori represented the groom's family from Samia.

The groom, a medical doctor, is a son of Ambassador Dennis Awori.

Cabinet Secretaries Joe Mucheru (ICT) and Keriako Tobiko (Environment) were also among the guests.

More than 10 judges and judicial staff led by Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu also attended the Saturday event.

It was a show of might and opulence that brought the sleepy Usenge town to life, with sounds of buzzing choppers in the air as guests arrived.

Others came in top-of-the-range vehicles to the awe of anxious villagers lining the roadsides.

The music played, the food was in plenty and drinks flowed as the guests hugged and tossed during the reception.

When Raila and his daughter Rosemary stood for a gig with the bridal party, the crowd went wild. They danced to rhumba, lingala and ohangla. Justice Ouko, his wife Carole and Mama Ida Odinga also joined the stage to shake a leg.

The ceremony started with the dowry payment, which was done in a private session that was only witnessed by close family members of the bride and groom.

The Aworis exhorted the newly weds, who are based in the US, to continue upholding family values and culture.

Langi, a lawyer by profession, vowed to always take care, respect and obey her husband while Awori pledged he would protect his wife.
