The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has issued an alert after a pride of lions was spotted roaming in the area north of Lake Naivasha.

Maella MCA Gathariki Kamanu said the animals were first seen by motorists using the Moi North Lake Road, who informed KWS officers.

The pack of five adult lions and three cubs, which are suspected to have strayed from Lake Nakuru National Park, are believed to have killed livestock in Soysambu and Eburru in recent weeks.

Mr Kamanu said the lives of school-going children would be in danger until the animals were trapped and relocated. Hellsgate National Park warden Peter Lekeren said rangers were on the ground tracking the lions.
