A man accused of impersonating DP William Ruto’s wife detained

A suspect in Deputy President William Ruto’s wife impersonation claims, will remain in custody for three days pending the completion of investigations.

Michael Mito Atito is said to have registered a Facebook page with the profile picture of Rachael Ruto in which he claimed to be supporting the less fortunate by giving out free Lorries.

Mito, together with others not yet arrested, he is accused of obtaining money fraudulently from the public meant for registering the said vehicles.

He claimed that he was supporting the less fortune in the society by giving out free motor vehicles (Lorries) that were to be registered in the names of the beneficiaries.

Investigation Officer, George Chai told the court that the suspect has committed an offense of impersonation contrary to section 105 of the penal code laws of Kenya.

“The suspect has opened a face book account and impersonated Rachel where he claimed that he was supporting the less fortune by giving out free Lorries that were to be registered in the names of the beneficiaries,” said Chai.

He added he committed that offense together with others not before the court and are still at large.

The officer requested the court to remand the suspect at Central police for four days from February 5, 2019 to February 8, 2019 and be produced in court on February 11, 2019 to complete investigations.

“I need more time to record statements of the key witnesses who are residing at Kisumu County where the suspect was arrested,” said Chai.

The officer said that he requires to obtain M-pesa account details of the suspect confirming the transactions.

He also want to contact members of the public who were victim of the scam and conduct identification parade of the suspects.

Magistrate Kennedy Cheruyuiot detained him for 3 days.
