Police have arrested a man who has been luring jobless women with promises of employment before robbing and raping them.

The man had placed his phone number in one of a popular job sites in the country, claiming he had an opening for a house girl.

Officers from the crime unit traced the man, 30, in a garage where he works.

The suspect was found with one of his victim's mobile phone and other valuables belonging to the women. One of the victims from Eldoret while speaking at Thika police station said the suspect had posted his phone number at the site, urging women seeking employment to contact him.

The man asked her to travel to Thika where she would be employed as a house girl at a monthly salary of Sh8,000.

"At around 8pm, he came in a boda boda in the company of another man saying they were taking me to my workstation. When we reached a bushy area near Witeithie, they turned against me and raped me in turns before robbing me," she said.

Another woman from Naivasha said the man told her to travel to Thika the day after she called the number posted on the site.

"He requested me to send him my full details including my ID number and CV so that he could prepare my employment contract. He also informed me that my salary would be between Sh8,000 to Sh10,000. I was happy that I had finally found a job," she said.

She said that on reaching Thika, the man picked her using a motorcycle in the company of another.

"On reaching a bushy area, they stopped and told me the motorbike had developed a mechanical problem. They removed a knife and ordered me to remove my clothes. I attempted to escape but was unlucky. They beat me up and threatened to kill me if I tried to escape again. To spare my life, I submitted and they raped me in turns," she said, sobbing.

Three other young women from Mombasa and Baringo have also gone through the same ordeal.

The suspect confessed he raped the women and claimed he is haunted by demons.

A detective said they have been tracking the suspect for two months. "Right now we have four official complaints and two of the girls have positively identified the suspect."
