Is Tony Gachoka finding his way back to Raila’s camp?

Nairobi, Kenya: Political analyst Tony Gachoka has raised eyebrows among political commentators as to whether he is rejoining CORD leader Raila Odinga’s camp with only a few months to the next general election.

A letter from Mr. Gachoka has also surfaced whereby he is requesting President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to meet and have a discussion on matters of public interest.

Below is Mr. Gachoka’s letter.

“OPEN LETTER”

19th January 2016

Your Excellency

Uhuru Kenyattta C.G.H

President and the Commander-in-Chief

Kenya Defense Forces

State House Nairobi

Rt Hon Raila Odinga

Leader of the Official Opposition

and Leader Cord

Capital Hill, Nairobi

Your Excellency, Hon Odinga

URGENT NEED FOR NATIONAL CONSENSUS DISCUSSIONS IN THE PUBLIC INTEREST

As a citizen who is well known to both of you I feel a duty and desire to raise these matters of National Consensus Discussions (NCD) on four principle matters in the Public interest.

  • The re-constitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, including improving its voter registration process, the replacing of its electronic register for training officials and for voting; agreeing on how instant reporting during elections is done is critical.
  • The Vacancies in the Supreme Court of Kenya which will follow the retirement of Dr. Willy Mutunga and his Deputy this year; together with any other vacancies at that court before the next elections begs the question who will handle all Presidential petitions among others.
  • The various attempts to have changes in some of the Constitutional, legal and Administrative laws by a referendum particularly areas were agreement can be reached should be negotiated in the public interest and any agreed issues can be done in Parliament without a referendum which will be at great public expense and unduly raise political temperatures before polls.
  • I would propose to have a committee of experts two from each side to look at ways to draw up urgently, a framework and the body of issues that form the agenda that both of you can sit around and iron out.

This country in 2007/8 went into General elections with unresolved issues and without talking to each other but the outcome/blame game resulted in bloodshed and chaos. Even today matters in the ICC ongoing are a result of the unfortunate events of post-election violence.

Yours Sincerely

Tony Gachoka            [email protected]
