Conmen use Raphael Tuju’s name to collect over Sh2 million via MPesa

For several months now, a cartel of conmen and women have been actively swindling members of the public using telephone accounts which include 0787548123, 0722930649,   0722 421775,  0701557992 among others,  claiming that they belong to former cabinet minister Raphael Tuju.

Mr Tuju received information that different people both in Kenya, South Africa and USA have so far lost more than two million shillings.

‘I would like to inform members of the public that I have reported the matter to the police and Safaricom. Last year I was informed by the police and Safaricom that some of the conmen including a lady had been arrested and taken to court in Kericho”, Tuju stated in a press statement.

Following the death of Tuju’s father, some of the conmen went into overdrive using  fake Twitter, Facebook and Telephone accounts. One victim lost Sh120,000 to a fake line listed as 0728512540 belonging to a Joyce Omamo, who had masqueraded as the Tuju’s sister.

Raphael Tuju confirmed publicly that he only has one Safaricom number, which is not available in the public domain and is not published in the internet or Facebook.

He further stated that he never chats on Facebook or twitter or phone with strangers or anyone. ‘Anyone posing on Facebook or twitter to be chatting with you is Fake. My phone has a true caller feature and ordinarily my phones are filtered by my secretary or aide”, added Tuju

Raphael Tuju wishes to caution the public not to send money to anyone claiming to be him or his son, daughter, brother, mother or sister because he does not operate any MPESA collection account. Any money sent to anyone claiming to be Raphael Tuju can only go to conmen or women.
