Don't move to court over accreditation, Ministry of Education warns

The Ministry of Education has warned engineering students in institutions which have not been accreditated to offer the courses against moving to court.

And the ministry announced that it is working closely with the Technical University of Kenya, Technical University of Mombasa and Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology to ensure they comply with requirements set for them to be allowed to offer engineering courses.

Science and Technology Principal Secretary Colleta Suda said the institutions are in the process of being cleared and they will soon be licensed to offer the courses.

Speaking at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (Dekut) during the accreditation certification ceremony yesterday, Prof Suda said the ministry and the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) are ensuring that all institutions offering engineering courses conform to all requirements.

"It is important that all institutions offering engineering programmes ensure they satisfy all requirements, since it will be pertinent in ensuring growth in the sector. Let them do what EBK has instructed them to do, otherwise we will not allow any university to offer sub-standard courses to learners," she said.

She said suing cannot bar them from ensuring that students get quality education.

"This problem cannot be solved through litigation. We are developing a nation as well as strengthening the quality of education offered in our institutions," said Ms Suda who was accompanied by EBK Chairman Wanjau Maina.
