Nairobi, Kenya: Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has called for the immediate arrest of the gunmen who attacked former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga and killed five people.

Speaking at Njenga’s residence in Karen, which is a few metres away from his own home, Raila said that from media reports it was clear that the Government knows the attackers and was only reluctant on arresting them.

“What we are reading in the newspapers on claims that former Mungiki gang members are the ones who carried out this attack, it is a clear way to show that the Government is aware of those attackers and does not want to arrest them,” said Raila.

He wondered how the Government was complaining of travel advisories issued by some Western countries on their nationals due to insecurity yet it was unable to guarantee security to wananchi.

The former Prime Minister said that Njenga’s survival was a miracle from God.

 Imprisoned

Raila said Njenga, like any other Kenyan, is entitled to security as enshrined in the Constitution and if he has committed any crime including killing should be arraigned in court and if found guilty imprisoned instead of trying to eliminate him.

ODM luminary Prof Anyang Nyongo who accompanied Raila wondered why action has not been taken by Police on threats which Njenga has reported several times that his life is at risk.

Njenga maintained that the Government is out to eliminate him due to his association with the opposition and for the ICC cases at The Hague. He said that from what he witnessed during the attack it proved that Kenya as a country had no security at all.

Njenga wondered how three attempts on his life can occur without police carrying out investigation and presenting it to the public.
