MM Shah Academy cyclists rode confidently and safely to win both boys and girls overall titles during the Mombasa Open Buffalo Mountain Bike competition at the Butterfly Farm, Mombasa.

Coached by their teacher Hilda Sululu who was adjudged as the best coach of the event, MM Shah pedaled to victory to defeat their strong challengers.

The winners bagged 60 points in the 10km and 5km races to remain at the summit with Memon Academy coming second with 29 points. Greenwood Groove Academy settled for the third position with 24 points.

In the 20km open race, Swabri Said clocked 34 minute.15.01 to become the new champion.

The Team Franyo cyclist said the course was a bit challenging.

“It was a tough race that saw athletes negotiate sharp and challenging corners along the course,” said Swabri after the win.

Leon Nzaro of Shanzu Duathlon clocked 41.02.00 to settle for the second position as Omar Said from Team Arabika timed 46.07.22 for the third position.

Vivian Hiller seemed to have mastered the course well after clocking 57.06.05 to win in the women category of the event co-sponsored by Lota Automotive Kenya, Habari Insurance Brokers and Canon Motors Limited.

Event organiser Mohammed Abdulaziz said the youth showed a lot of potential.

“We shall be doing more events so that cycling can remain as one of the most popular sports in Mombasa,” said Abdulaziz.
