Japhet Koome has been sworn in as the fourth Inspector-General (IG) of the National Police Service.
Koome was sworn in by Chief Justice Martha Koome at the Supreme Court buildings on Friday morning, November 11.
Speaking after the event the Police boss warned robbers and muggers who have been terrorizing Kenyans telling them that their days are numbered.
Koome said that providing security for Kenyans will be his priority adding that he will prioritize the issue of cattle rustling.
He defended the police against claims of brutality saying that a majority of the officers are professional and that only about two per cent of the officers misbehave.
Koome who is also a trained engineer has 31 years of experience in the Police Service having joined in 1991 as a Police Constable after graduating the previous year with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1990.
He will take over from Deputy Inspector-General of Police Mr Noor Gabow who has been the acting IG following the retirement of Hilary Mutyambai on health grounds.
Mutyambai's retirement was announced by President William Ruto when he was naming his cabinet on September 27, 2022.
