The national government has started a Sh1 billion road project expected to connect Kasipul and Karachuonyo constituencies in Homa Bay County.
For several years, residents have complained of bad roads which get worse during rains, making it impassable to move travel or transport produce.
The 18Km Adiedo-Namba Karabok will be constructed to bitumen standards. It begins at the Adiedo trading center in Karachuonyo and ends at Namba Karabok junction in Kasipul.
The tender has been awarded to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation.
The works will take two years, according to the contractors. Yesterday, Homa Bay Woman Rep Gladys Wanga, Karachuonyo MP Adipo Okume and former Kasipul MP Oyugi Magwanga witnessed the start of the project. They urged residents to co-operate with the contractor to avoid disruptions. The leaders urged locals not to politicise development projects.
She told the residents to avoid politics when it comes to development. She argued that the only way to transform lives in the county is through the implementation of development projects.
Wanga said the project will help boost the local economy and living standards of residents.
“Transportation of agricultural produce to markets will no longer be a problem,” said Wanga.
Okuome said road network is an important ingredient of production and economic growth.
“This road will connect this area to Oyugis town which is very crucial as far as business is concerned. It will also provide jobs to locals,” Magwanga said.
