London-born, Nigerian musician Michael Meka is proving to be a genre-blurring force, merging Afrobeats, Hip Hop, and R&B into a sound uniquely his own.
Fresh off the success of his breakout single '3AM', he is gearing up for his next drop, blending Amapiano rhythms with his signature cross-continental flair. This new track, 'Parking Lot', is more than just a song, it’s a statement of his evolution as an artist as he says.
Meka’s musical identity is deeply rooted in his multicultural experiences. Born in a London to Nigerian parents and spending his teenage years in the U.S., his style reflects the diverse influences he has absorbed along the way.
"I mix Igbo, pidgin, and English in my lyrics," he explains. "It keeps my music authentic to who I am. I want people to feel that blend of cultures in every track."
His last hit, "3AM", became an anthem for late-night vibes, layering sultry Afrobeats grooves with smooth R&B vocals.
Now, with "Parking Lot", Meka ventures further into Amapiano, a genre originating in South Africa that has taken the world by storm with its hypnotic beats and log drum-driven rhythms.
With Black History Month as a backdrop, Meka sees his artistry as part of a larger movement.
"Music has always been about connection. My goal is to bridge the gap between African and Western cultures, showing how interconnected we really are," he reflects. "It’s about unity through sound."
Collaborating once again with producer EMXBEATZ, Meka has crafted a track that embodies his artistic growth. "Parking Lot is about late-night introspection. It’s raw emotion but infused with that Amapiano energy. It’s different from anything I’ve done before."
Never one to be boxed in, Meka is already eyeing future projects that will push his sound even further. He plans to explore Afro-swing, Highlife, and global collaborations that reinforce his belief: music has no borders.
"I want to push boundaries, keep evolving, and bring fresh energy to the game. This is just the beginning."
