Milka Moraa, the woman who was publicly humiliated by televangelist Pastor Ng'ang'a, has thanked him for guiding her towards a better path.
Moraa shared her sentiments after meeting with Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Hon Alice Wahome, to finalise her registration under the government’s Affordable Housing Program through Boma Yangu.
“Nashukuru Mungu kwa kuniwezesha nimefika mahali hapa. Second, ninashukuru pastor Ngang’a kwa kunidirect a good way, nimechukua a good direction. Nimesaidiwa na nimefaidika. Nimepata nyumba na ikiwa ready nitaingia,” said Moraa.
Two weeks ago, Moraa made headlines when she went to the Neno Evangelism Center seeking help to pay off her Sh4,000 rent arrears. Instead of compassion, she was met with harsh words and public shaming.
Pastor Ng'ang’a dismissed her plea, telling her to seek help elsewhere: “Enda polisi. Polisi ya kwenu ni wapi? Sasa umefungiwa, umekuja hapa kutafuta pesa. Hapa ni kwa maombi.”
However, Moraa’s public humiliation became a blessing in disguise. The story touched many Kenyans, and with help from Kenyan police officer Sammy Ondimu Ngare, well-wishers raised money to reopen her house. But that was just the beginning.
In a post on Facebook, Wahome disclosed that Moraa had paid her deposit and will continue paying as she rents to own.
“This morning, at Ardhi House, I met Milka Moraa who explained to me her journey to where she is now, we also discussed her registration to the Affordable Housing Program through Boma Yangu, where she has paid her deposit and will continue paying as she rents to own. In two months, Milka is now set to own a self-contained home at Mukuru Site, that is complete with essential amenities, including a kitchen, bathroom, and toilet,” Wahome wrote on Facebook.
She added: “A heartfelt thank you to Sammy Ondimu Ngare for bringing her story to light and supporting her through the documentation process. I must also recognise Pastor Ng’ang’a for directing Milka to Affordable Housing, asante sana.”
Moraa's story captured national attention when a video surfaced showing her pleading for assistance at the Neno Evangelism Centre.
She tearfully revealed that her landlord had welded her door shut due to Sh8,000 in rent arrears. Rather than offering support, Pastor Ng'ang’a curtly told her to seek help from Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja or report her case to the police.
