Kenya records 692 Covid-19 cases, 8 deaths in last 24 hours

Kenya on Saturday, July 16 recorded 692 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, from a sample of 6,883 raising the country's caseload to 191,712.

In a statement, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the new infections take the country’s positivity rate to 10.1 per cent and cumulated tests conducted so far to 2,043,335.

Out of the new patients, 371 are male, whereas 321 are female, with the youngest carrier aged one, and the oldest aged 95.

Of the new cases, 24 are foreigners while the rest are Kenyans.

Distribution

In terms of counties distribution, Kilifi recorded 224, Nairobi 183, Mombasa 52, Uasin Gishu 36, Nakuru 32, Kiambu 31, Lamu 14, Muranga 13, Nandi 13, Machakos 11, Tana River 10, Kisumu 7, Kirinyaga 7, Nyeri and Taita Taveta 6 cases each, Kajiado, Kisii and Siaya 5 cases each, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Busia, Narok and Nyandarua 3 cases each, Embu, Homa Bay, Kakamega, Kitui, Meru and Wajir 2 cases each.

West Pokot, Garissa, Vihiga, Kwale and Mandera a case each.

Kenya’s Covid-19 toll reached 3,754 after eight patients succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours.

The total recoveries so far stand at 180,543 after 123 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours with 82 from the Home-Based and Isolation care programme while 41 are from various health facilities in the country.

Of the total recoveries, 144,054 are from the Home Based Isolation Care programme while 36, 489 are from various hospitals countrywide.

A total of 1,108 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 4,352 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

One hundred and twenty-four (124) patients are in the ICU, 38 of whom are on ventilatory support and 60 on supplemental oxygen. Twenty-six (26) patients are on observation.

Another 219 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 201 of them in general wards and 18 in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccination

Kenya has at July 16, 2021, administered 1,607,982 vaccines across the country.

Of these, the total first doses are 1,035,621 while the second doses are 572,361.

The uptake of the second dose by Priority Groups is as follows: Aged 58 years and above 178,543, Others 163,202, Health Workers 105,063, Teachers 80,093 while Security Officers are at 45,360.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 55.3 per cent with the majority being males at 55 per cent while females are at 45 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated is 2.0 per cent.
