Covid-19: Kenya records 324 new cases, 10 deaths in last 24 hours

Kenya has recorded 324 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, a positivity rate of 7.4 per cent, raising the country's caseload to 168,432.

The Health Ministry said in a statement on May 23 that the new infections were discovered in 4,392 samples taking to the cumulated tests conducted so far to 1,781,426.

Out of the new patients, 223 are male, whereas 101 are female, with the youngest carrier aged one, and the oldest aged 91.

Of the new cases, 26 are foreigners, while the rest were Kenyans.

Distribution

In terms of counties distribution, Kiambui recorded 84 cases, Nairobi 68, Homa Bay 28, Mombasa 27, Kisii 19, Nyeri 17, Kilifi13, Isiolo and Meru 7 cases each, Kisumu and Uasin Gishu 6 cases each, Kitui, Laikipia, Migori and Muranga, 4 cases each, Narok and Nakuru 3 cases each, Machakos, Trans Nzoia, Turkana and Nandi 2 cases each.

Baringo, Bomet, Bungoma, Busia Elgeyo Marakwet, Embu, Kajiado, Kakamega, Nyandarua, Siaya, Taita Taveta and Tharaka Nithi one case each.

The total recoveries so far stand at 114,537 after 85 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours with 53 from the Home-Based and Isolation care programme while 32 are from various health facilities in the country.

Of the total recoveries, 83,216 are from the Home Based Isolation Care programme while 31,321 are from various hospitals countrywide.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said Kenya’s Covid-19 toll reached 3,059 on Sunday after 10 were confirmed dead in the last 24 hours.

A total of 1,084 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 4,751 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

One hundred and twenty-one (121) patients are in the ICU, 25 of whom are on ventilatory support and 68 on supplemental oxygen. Twenty-eight (28) patients are on observation.

Another 86 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 79 of them in general wards and seven (7) in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccination

Kenya has as of today, vaccinated 953,954 against the Covid-19 disease countrywide.

Of these 289,766 are aged 58 years and above together with others, Health workers are 163,976, teachers so far vaccinated are 150,203, security officers 80, 665 while 269,344 are the other categories.
