Covid-19: Kenya records 85 new cases in last 24 hours

Kenya has recorded 85 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours raising the country's total caseload to 99,983.

In a statement sent to media houses by the Ministry of Health on Sunday, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe (pictured) said the new cases are from 2,985 samples which push the country's cumulative tests to 1,156, 106.

In terms of gender, 39 are male and 46 are female while the youngest case is one-year-old and the oldest is aged 88.

Of the new cases, 69 are Kenyans while 16 are foreigners.

On a positive note, 33 patients recovered with 25 from the home-based care programme while eight were discharged from various hospitals bringing the total number of recoveries to 82, 969.

However, Kagwe said four patients have succumbed to the disease bringing Kenya’s fatalities since March to 1,744.

A total of 545 are admitted in various health facilities while 1,568 are in the Home-based Isolation.

CS Kagwe said 27 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of which 15 are on ventilatory support while 11 are on supplemental oxygen with one patient being on observation.

Separately, another 14 patients are in the supplementary Oxygen, of whom 10 are general wards while two are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Distribution

In counties’ distribution, Nairobi leads with 70 cases, Kiambu, Makueni, Mombasa, Nyeri and Nakuru counties each with two cases.

Laikipia, Machakos, Narok, Nyandarua and Trans Nzoia counties each have one case.
