Kenya: Senior executives have joined politicians in the quest to look youthful, causing the male grooming sector to become one of the fastest growing in the country, according to global market research firm Euronmonitor International.
The research firm indicates in 2013, the men's skin care market grew by six per cent, which is attributed to advertising and the Westernisation of Kenyan men.
"Another factor that boosted growth was the increased focus on personal grooming for men due to image and increased exposure to Western culture," says the survey released last week.
The firm says during the study period, a significant number of high-end beauty salons for men have been opened in Nairobi and other major towns.
As Kenyan men glam up to age gracefully, they join a global trend to make this the second fastest growing category in the beauty market. In 2013, the men's grooming industry was valued at $35.4 billion (Sh3.2 trillion).
Euronomitor International, which sells market research to potential investors, says with growing incomes and an expanding middle-class, Kenya is the place to set up shop.
