Railways Golf Club player, Evelyne Wanjiku, carded 45 stableford points to lift the inaugural Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Golf Open Championship at the Par 72 Windsor Golf and Country Club in Nairobi on Friday.

Playing off handicap 34, Wanjiku ended the day one point better than the nearest challenger, Edwin Ombega. Handicap 27 Ombega emerged the men’s winner after edging out Edward Kerich, who fired 43, with a point.

Kerich bagged men’s runner-up spot as handicap 28 Daniel Mwangi came third on 42. Handicap 20 Charles Maitho finished fourth on 41 in the hotly contested men’s contest.

Outgoing captain

Home player Phyllis Kimbo won the ladies category on 37 points. Kimbo finished a point ahead of Muthaiga’s Mary Wanjiru as outgoing Limuru Lady captain Wambui Gitonga came third on 35.

In the longest drive contest, Caleb Kositany was crowned the winner in the men’s category as Rosemary Koiny took honours in the ladies’ contest.

Shabir Walgi was the nearest-to-the-pin champion.

“KRA is cognisant of the key role played by all stakeholders towards revenue mobilisation and compliance.

“In view of this realisation, this particular event is meant to cement that engagement with our stakeholders by interacting as we get to understand one another,” KRA Commissioner-General Githii Mburu said.
